Amy Maude Helfer, American mezzo-soprano, is gaining attention as a versatile singing actor, especially noted for her physicality, comedic timing, and "gorgeous voice."

During the 2015-16 season, Amy made a company debut as Phoebe (The Yeomen of the Guard) at Winter Opera Saint Louis, was alto soloist in Handel's Messiah at the Hellenic American Conservatory, reprised her roles of Leila (Iolanthe) and Kate (Pirates of Penzance) with New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players (NYGASP), was alto soloist in Bach's Magnificat and Christ lag in Todesbanden with Hudson Opera Theatre, sang Cole Porter and Mozart concerts in her debut with Opera Theater of Connecticut at the Sanibel Music Festival, and made a role debut as Melissa (Princess Ida) with NYGASP. In the summer of 2016, Amy made role and company debuts as Baba the Turk (The Rake's Progress) with the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, and Mercédès (Carmen) with Opera Theater of Connecticut.

Amy celebrated the beginning of 2017 with performances as Pitti-Sing in a “Re-Imagined” Mikado with NYGASP. She debuted the role of Lady Angela in Patience with NYGASP in April.

Amy enjoyed several debuts in 2015, including a role and company debut as Nancy (Albert Herring) with Bronx Opera, Carnegie Hall debut as alto soloist in Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass with Manhattan Concert Productions, a role debut as Tessa (The Gondoliers) with NYGASP at Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, and a role and company debut as Petra (A Little Night Music) with Madison Lyric Stage.
Other operatic credits include Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) at Dayton Opera, Hansel (Hansel and Gretel) at Boston Lyric Opera-Opera New England, and the title role in La Cenerentola at Quisisana, Maine.

Previous highlights include Phoebe (Yeomen) at the International G&S Festival in Malvern & Harrogate UK and New York City Center, Lady Saphir (Patience), Pitti-Sing (The Mikado), Princess Kalyba (Utopia, Limited), Gretchen (The Grand Duke) with NYGASP, semi-finalist in the 2013 Lotte Lenya Competition at the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music, Artist-in-Residence at Dayton Opera in 2013 and 2011, Stéphano (Roméo et Juliette) with dell'Arte Opera Ensemble, Clotilde Lombaste (The New Moon), Susan (The Desert Song), and Ethel Brander (Rose-Marie) with Light Opera of New York, Hansel (Hansel and Gretel) with Opera Manhattan, and Kate (Pirates) with Boheme Opera-New Jersey. 

Amy holds a Bachelor of Music degree in both Voice Performance and Music Education from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Boston University. She has served annually as a high holiday cantorial soloist since 2003.

A native of Cheshire, Connecticut, Amy currently resides in New York City.
